Wolbring Legacy Society

The Wolbring Legacy Society honors Hilligonde Wolbring and her legacy of faith and compassion that continues beyond her lifetime. Born in Holland in 1828, Hilligonde Wolbring was orphaned at age 7 and taken to Germany to live with relatives. She became a teacher, deciding to use her inheritance to benefit poor and neglected children. Together with Elizabeth Kuhling, Hilligonde discerned that their desire to bring hope to the poor was a call to religious life, and so the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame was established in Coesfeld, Germany in 1850.

"What is of greatest importance is … uniting all of our works with the work of the divine Savior …
Thus, we make gold out of stones."
—Sister Maria Aloysia Wolbring
